NEMAC for Dance Studios

Corrections in the mirror. Protection in writing.

From hands-on corrections to recital quick changes, dance carries moments that must be handled with visible discipline. NEMAC gives your studio the protocols — and your families the proof.

Why it matters here

A dance studio runs on trust: parents hand you their children for hours a week, through classes, rehearsals, costumes, and recitals. NEMAC turns that trust into something you can post on the wall and verify in a public directory.

The protocols are built for how dance actually works. Corrections still happen — demonstrated first, applied minimally, in open view. Quick changes still happen — with paired, screened, same-gender volunteers and no exceptions. The show goes on, with witnesses.

Your protocols

Demonstrate, Then Adjust

Hands-on corrections are announced and shown first — on yourself or in the mirror — then applied with minimal contact, from the front or side, in open view.

Observable Studios

Doors with windows, viewing windows, or monitors: a parent who can see the room is a witness who protects your staff.

Costume & Quick Changes

Supervised only by screened same-gender adult volunteers working in pairs — never a single adult — and never with phones or cameras backstage.

Recital Backstage Rule

Two adults backstage at all times, every performance, no exceptions.

Media Policy

Photography and video of students only under the studio's posted policy with written parent consent.

Scenario: The Quick Change

At a recital, a volunteer dad helps backstage. During a quick change he is the only adult in the changing area with eight young dancers, zipping the ones who struggle. Another parent looks behind the curtain to find her daughter — and sees a man alone with children in various states of undress.

Consider: What does that parent believe she saw? What do the two-adult, same-gender rules exist to prevent — for the children and for that volunteer?

Recital season multiplies your volunteers and your risk at the same time. Certify before the spring show, not after.
